Dr. Klein is the recipient of a certificate from the President of Italy conferring upon him the title of Cavaliere, the highest level of knighthood open to a civilian who is not a citizen of Italy.

Dr. Richard Klein

Richard S. Klein, M.D. is a practicing physician in Yorktown Heights, New York. He specializes in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. An Associate Professor of Medicine, Dr. Klein teaches medical students at the New York Medical College. An internationally renowned caregiver, Dr. Klein has been knighted by the Italian government and received medals and awards from the Israeli government. As a young sailor, he was awarded lifesaving commendations for his work as a field medic assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps.

He ran for the U.S. Congress from the New York 19th Congressional District. At that time he met the President, Vice President and most Democratic Representatives and Senators. During his congressional race, he was endorsed by the New York Times for his “immense sense of service and volunteerism to the community at large.”

Dr. Klein was both the Westchester County Chairman of Israeli Bonds as well as the UJA-Federation of Westchester. He volunteered as a physician and worked in Israel during two wars, caring for wounded Arab and Israeli soldiers. He presently serves on the boards of a multitude of volunteer organizations serving the community. He has served twenty years as the volunteer fire surgeon for Yorktown Heights, New York, as well as Board Member and Physician, for shelters for battered women and children (My Sisters Place and the Northern Westchester Shelter).

Dr. Klein formed and currently chairs the Coalition of Italian American Organizations of Northern Westchester and Putnam Counties. He also donates an annual scholarship to the ‘Circolo Da Vinci,’ an organization that promotes Italian heritage. These gestures are a way of paying back to the Italian community for affording him the opportunity to study medicine in Italy.

As an instrument rated aircraft pilot, Dr. Klein has volunteered for Angel Flight, an organization that flies cancer patients and their families, free of charge, to distant treating hospitals. He is a second degree black belt in Karate and recently sailed his 47’ Choy Lee, ‘DRSFAST,’ up and down the east coast and the Caribbean. He is the author of ‘The Wine Tasters Album,’ and founded the Dr's. Fast diet system.

Dr. Klein has recently been appointed to serve on the Board of the Westchester County Department of Health.

He lives with his son Matthew.
